Welcome to the Kelly Heinz-Grundner Brain Tumor Foundation (KHG)! On behalf of the entire organization, I am so glad that you found your way to our site and that you are interested in learning more about our important work.
KHG was established in 2005 as a tribute to my wife and best friend, Kelly, who passed away from a brain tumor at the age of 31. There are over 600,000 people in the U.S. living with a primary brain tumor. Sadly, many are destined to suffer the same fate as Kelly. My goal in starting this Foundation was to play a significant role in the war against brain tumors, especially in the area of awareness.
While we have been highly successful in our efforts to date, a March 2010 merger with the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) - the nation's largest non-profit organization serving the brain tumor community through research, patient support, and public policy – has given us the opportunity to share our message with a national audience. Because of the generous support of our dedicated supporters over the past five years, and our merger with NBTS, our trademark slogan - GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME® - has a very real opportunity to become the nationwide call-to-action for brain tumor awareness. I can't even begin to tell you how exciting this is for me personally.
As you peruse our site, you will see that we have taken on a comprehensive mission for our Foundation, which also includes supporting patients and their families. I am proud to say that our merger has also enabled us to provide you with more resources in this regard. As such, you will notice that we periodically link to the NBTS website. So we encourage you to please take the time to examine our site, so that you can learn more about brain tumors, the resources we have available, and about how you can join us in our important work.
The good news is that we have a strong team that is dedicated to this cause. However, the truth is that the awareness battle will still happen primarily on the front-lines and will only succeed if each and every one of us steps up and does his or her part. In my opinion, we must push forward together and continue relentlessly as a team in our fight against brain tumors. As we all know, this disease will never take a day off. This means we can't either.
Whether you are a patient, a family member or friend of a patient, or a caring member of the community, we trust that you will find our goals worthwhile, appreciate the information and resources we have to offer and, ultimately, make a decision to join us in the fight to beat brain tumors once and for all!
Truly,
Chris Grundner
